Frequently Asked Solar Battery Questions

How much room do I need for a solar battery?

Each LG battery is 28” x 50”, but they are only 8” deep, so it should fit against any wall easily. You will also need room for the smart energy box which is 20” x 24”

Each Enphase battery is 22” x 39”, and the smart switch is 20” x 36”

Usually a 6’ area of wall will suffice.

While the batteries are rated for outdoor use, we recommend against putting them outside in order to increase their performance and longevity.

We will customize your batteries to your needs and what you want backed up. Whether that’s the whole house including outbuildings or just fridges and some select circuits is up to you.

This depends on what you want backed up. If you want the whole house backed up, it will depend on your house usage and how much power large devices such as AC units use.

A standard house can usually do a whole home back up with 2 LG batteries or 3 Enphase batteries.

The Enphase batteries require your existing system to already have Enphase microinverters installed, but our LG battery system is retrofittable to most existing solar set ups.

In most cases, yes.

Yes. The 30% Federal Tax Credit applies to your entire solar energy system including batteries. In rare occasions, there may even be some local incentives available for batteries.

You may have heard someone mention this and the odds are they were talking about SREC’s, or Solar Renewable Energy Certificates. SRECs are a tradable commodity representing the environmental benefits of one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generated from solar energy. More about SRECs

No. You don’t need to. But lots of our customers do. While not absolutely necessary, a battery can be a great way to protect against unforeseen power outages.

No. Sadly, you can’t believe everything you see on the internet. And if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. For most of the sites claiming they’ll help you get solar panels for free from the government, they’re really talking about Federal Solar Tax Credit and we have a variety of videos explaining exactly how that works and what’s covered.

Three main criteria determine whether you qualify for the federal solar tax credit:

  • 1. You have to own the solar energy system. It doesn’t work if you’re leasing.
  • 2. You must install the solar panels on your primary or secondary residence.
  • 3. You must have taxable income.

We’re biased but yes. For most of our customers, solar makes sense and it is worth it. Most homeowners can save a significant amount both in the short term and the long term.
